russ52@windstream.net Russ Jordan

Russ Jordan is deeply involved in western North Carolina’s music as both performer and organizer. He plays mandolin and guitar with Hickory Grove, a bluegrass and country band that has been playing together for more than a decade. His bandmates are his wife Billie Jordan, Ray Mosley, and Kerry and Wanda McSwain. Hickory Grove has opened programs for Doc Watson, and has shared stages with Ronnie Reno, J. D. Crowe, and other bluegrass greats.

Hickory Grove has played at Renofest in South Carolina, the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival, Blue Ridge Barbeque Festival, the Wayne Henderson Festival, and at many other venues throughout the area. In addition to being a performer, Russ is a co-founder of Renofest, an annual festival in Hartsville, South Carolina, that celebrates the life and music of Don Reno.

Jordan is a familiar presenter of traditional music. He is an emcee at Merlefest, has hosted a bluegrass show on WNCW radio, and helped organize the music series at the Old Rock School in Valdese.
