Bailey Mountain Cloggers Score 20th National Title – Blue Ridge National Heritage Area

Mars Hill College’s Bailey Mountain Cloggers garnered their 20^th national championship title this weekend, at the American Clogging Hall of Fame National Competition in Maggie Valley.

It was the Smooth Routine that brought home the highest award of the competition and the team’s 20^th national title. BMC also won four overall titles in the following categories: Smooth Mountain Square Dance, Moving Contemporary Line, Props Exhibition (the men of BMC, also known as Off Sync), and Artistic Expression.

In all, the award-winning dance team completed thirteen routines over the course of two days against 30 teams in their age division and over 60 teams in the entire competition.

In addition to the team awards, several members of the team took individual awards. Senior Heather Boyd won 1st Place Contemporary Female Solos and senior Lee Revis was inducted into the ACHF All-American Team and won 2nd Place in Traditional Male Solos. Senior C.J. Tate won 3rd Place in Traditional Male Solos and 3rd Place Buck and Wing Duet with sophomore Ann Marie Knight.

BMC Director Danielle Plimpton said she was proud of the unique tradition that the Bailey Mountain Cloggers bring to Mars Hill College.

“I’m proud to be associated with these young men and women who, through their outstanding talent and hard work, bring honor to our team, and to Mars Hill College. Our team not only helps to keep the unique tradition of clogging alive, but it adds a personal flair to some more modern dance forms as well. It is a great honor to bring such recognition home to Mars Hill,” she said.

The next performance of the Bailey Mountain Cloggers will be at their Silent Auction Fundraiser, planned for December 1, 2012 in Moore Auditorium on the campus of Mars Hill College. The auction will begin at 4:00pm and performance will begin at 5:00pm.
