Metal sculptor Grace Cathey announces the publication of Fire & Steel: The Sculpture of Grace Cathey.  Dahlia Books will publish the book – an exploration of the life and work of Cathey on July 1, 2013.   Fire & Steel is a collaboration between Cathey and the distinguished historian Sara Evans (author, Carolina native and seasonal resident).  It introduces Cathey, tells the story of how she came to metal art after years as a professional weaver and painter and how her work has grown and changed.  It also describes some of the techniques, especially finishes and use of color, that draw on Cathey’s experience as a weaver, watercolorist and print artist.  In celebration of this milestone Cathey will be signing copies of her book during Art After Dark at Grace Cathey Sculpture Garden and Gallery, 136 Depot St.  (inside Walker Service) on July 5 from 11 am to 9 pm and July 6 from 11 am to 3 pm.

Newly opened Cedar Hill Studio is a “must-visit”.  This gorgeously renovated gallery features regional artists and antiques alike, in a spacious setting.  Cedar Hill Studio is currently celebrating their grand-opening, so stop by to enjoy “Art, Antiques & other Passions” at 196 North Main Street, Waynesville NC.  This is a “don’t-want-to-miss gallery full of wonderful things.”

Twigs and Leaves will be hosting painter Jack Stern.  Native to Colorado but now a Western North Carolina resident, oil painter Jack Stern was inspired by his grandmother at an early age.  Known for his incredible water and magnificent skies, Jack will be demonstrating at Twigs and Leaves Gallery for Art After Dark, Friday evening, July 5, 6 to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday 11 to 4.  As one of the gallery favorites, Jack’s Western North Carolina “naturescapes” can be seen year round in the gallery.   Friday evening, as you stroll through the gallery’s 145 plus primarily regional artists, enjoy piano and guitar music by Jason Watford from Dothan, AL and delight in the savory hors d’oeuvres.  Twigs and Leaves Gallery, 98 North Main Street, Waynesville NC, 28786 is open Monday through Saturday 10 to 5:30 and Sunday 1 to 4; reach us at 828-456-1940 or at our website www.twigsandleaves.com or find us on Facebook.

The Village Framer will be presenting a photography exhibit by Jason Cox, featuring photographs taken while working to assist hurricane victims in Oklahoma. Jason has recently returned from a mission trip with his church The Rock Church in Asheville and offers us a glimpse of the suffering, and a message for hope.  The exhibit will also be a fundraiser to raise money to benefit the hurricane victims.
