Cherokee, North Carolina Heritage

Living the traditions of a thousand year...

With harmony and balance at the heart of their culture,
With women honored and respected as members of their clans,
With democratic consensus ruling their lives,
With ceremonies and customs that created a unique culture,
With respect for the land and responsible stewardship,
With spiritual reverence and regard for one another,
The Real People—the Ani-Yvwiya—the Cherokee
Have survived a difficult history by preserving their traditions…
and living them.

Today on the Qualla Boundary, commonly known as the Cherokee Indian Reservation, members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians continue to live their honored traditions and to strive for the balance that has guided and supported their culture for a thousand years.  Balancing the modern world with ancient traditions, the Cherokee Indians welcome millions of visitors each year while being goods stewards of the delicate mountain landscape that is their ancestral home.  They educate their youth to participate fully in the global economy while passing on the Cherokee language and cherished traditions.

Welcome to the "Land of the Blue Mist," homeland of the Cherokee, NC Indians.
